New Energy Labels are on their way, here’s what you need to know…

When we first started rating appliances for their energy efficiency, the basic A,B,C system worked well to categorise appliances for their energy and water consumption, helping you to make a more informed decision.

Now that technology has advanced, this rating system is not sensitive enough to cope with the improvements the industry has made, leaving appliances with very different performance levels ‘clumped together’. The new system will reflect this advancement and will encourage further energy and water savings in our development.

When will it start?

It has started already! The deadline is 1st March 2021 and new energy labels are already starting to appear instore.

What will it look like?

There will be a period where both labels are compliant with the changes and to allow everyone to switch to the new system. This might mean you see two labels on an appliance and they will both apply until the switchover. The higher rating will inevitably be the old energy rating and the lower rating will be the new one.

Even though this is a big change to the way we test and rate our appliances, it is a positive one. In the long run it will make us more efficient, cleaner for the environment and kinder to your pocket.
